Navasrushti Eco Bags Project

‘Navasrushti Eco Bags Project’ (NEBP) is a project of NIT to promote environmental health by encouraging the use of eco-friendly bags like paper bags, cloth bags, jute bags etc. for domestic use instead of plastic bags.
Plastic bags are found to be very harmful to human beings and animals. They create soil pollution, environmental hazards, water logging and mosquito breeding.
NEBP also aims to support the Bhookhmukt Bachpan Abhiyan by creating self-employment opportunities for mothers of poor children in the villages and slums.  Unemployed  mothers will be taught how to make useful bags  of various shapes and sizes using old newspapers, cloth and jute products. These bags will be marketed by NEBP Volunteers and the proceedings will be given to the women workers.
The women workers will be encouraged in course of time to form Mutual Help Groups (MHGs) or Self-employed Women’s Cooperatives (SWCs) by themselves to promote this and similar  eco-friendly mutual help projects and programmes under their own leadership.

NEBP will also help in developing the creativity inherent in children. School children will be taught how to make useful bags of various shapes and sizes using old newspapers, cloth and jute products as part of their ‘SUPW’ (Socially Useful Productive Work) classes.  NEBP Volunteers will serve as teachers for these SUPW classes. These bags will be marketed by NEBP Volunteers and the proceedings will be given to the children as ‘pocket money’ so that they can also contribute towards their evening meals.
How can you support the Navasrushti Eco Bags Project ?
