The Kerala Experiment

Kerala is chosen by DBM as the seedbed and ‘karma bhoomi’ for the Second Freedom Struggle of India. The three-pronged common basic goal and motto of the Second Freedom Struggle (‘Hunger-free, Caste-free and Corruption-free India’) adopted at Kanyakumari is replaced by a two-pronged common basic goal and motto - ‘Liquor-free family & Panchayati Raj democracy’ for Kerala. This is very relevant in the present context of this God’s own land where suicide rate and consumption of liquor are among the highest in the world.
The Government of Kerala has suppressed the power of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to decide on the sale of liquor within their areas and has taken over the monopoly of  the sale of liquor in the state. The Government, Abkari contractors, Bar owners and the political parties are working together to increase sale and consumption of liquor in the state with an eye of easy money. As a result this most literate and politically conscious state in India has fallen into a deep moral crisis. Kerala today leads the rest of the country in suicides, divorces, family break ups, road accidents, government debt, goondaism, political violence and hartals.
Reinstating to the PRIs their basic right to decide on sales of liquor within their areas is the first step in establishing true Panchayati Raj democracy in Kerala. This will also help to reduce sale and consumption of liquor in the state which in turn will save millions of families in the state from poverty and domestic violence. This fact motivated DBM to adopt the common basic goal ‘Liquor-free family & Panchayati Raj democracy’ for its Kerala experiment.
Dharma Rajya Vedi’ (DRV), an inter-religious organization founded by Swami Sachidananda Bharathi, was reconstituted and reoriented in 2009 to make it a socio-spiritual network of like-minded organizations and institutions collaborating with DBM in the Second Freedom Struggle of India. DRV is made responsible to promote Panchayati raj democracy and  ‘Enlightened National Politics’ in India, and to achieve the goal of ‘Liquor-free family & Panchayati Raj democracy’ in Kerala.
As the first step in its historic task, DRV undertook a two-week long ‘Dharma Rajya Sandesha Yatra’ across Kerala under the leadership of Swami Sachidananda Bharathi from 23rd  May to 5th June 2010. The aim of this all-Kerala Yatra was to introduce the vision and mission of Dharma Rajya Vedi to the people of Kerala and to gather their support for the common basic goal of ‘Liquor-free family & Panchayati Raj democracy’.
On 9th Aug 2010, the 68th anniversary of the historic ‘Quit India’ Campaign launched by Mahatma Gandhi, DRV initiated a socio-spiritual campaign in Kerala under the name Chaitanya Kerala Mahayagnam with a day-long inter-religious convention at Public Library Hall, Kottayam. This was the follow-up action taken by DRV for its  two-week long Dharma Rajya Sandesha Yatra’.
The aim of this unique socio-spiritual campaign is to realise the goal of ‘Liquor-free family & Panchayati Raj democracy’ in Kerala and to transform this most literate and politically conscious state in India into a Chaitanya Keralam that will be an inspirational model of true Panchayati Raj democracy in the country. Patriotic, courageous and peace-loving men and women will provide dedicated service to achieve the objectives of DRV. They will together constitute an organization of socio-spiritual entrepreneurs under the name ‘Dharma Rajya Seva Sangham’ (DRSS) and will rewrite the history of Kerala and India with their own blood, sweat and tears – blood shed in non-violent political struggle, sweat of hard work, and tears of ardent prayer.
A pilot project of Chaitanya Kerala Mahayagnam is also being taken up in Mulanthuruthy Panchayat under the name ‘Mulanthuruthy Panchayat Samagra Vikasana Yagnam’ (Mulanthuruthy Panchayat Integrated Development Project).
